What is an offerwall?
An offerwall is a dedicated page inside a mobile app where users can choose from a list of sponsored tasks and earn a reward for completing them. Typical tasks include downloading and installing another app, registering for a free trial, watching a rewarded video, or making an in-app purchase.
Instead of interrupting a user with an ad they never asked for, an offerwall invites the user to act on their own terms. The user chooses which offers interest them, completes the task, and receives virtual currency or premium items. Everyone benefits: the advertiser gets a real, verified user, the app publisher earns revenue, and the user gets something in return.
How an offerwall works
- The user opens the offerwall inside the app and browses available offers.
- The user completes a task, such as installing an app and reaching a required level.
- The advertiser verifies the action through server-to-server (S2S) attribution or an SDK callback.
- The reward is credited to the user's in-app balance, and the publisher earns revenue.
Because every conversion is verified before a reward is granted, offerwalls are one of the most transparent ad formats. Publishers can see exactly which campaigns performed and at what effective cost per action they acquired each user.
The business model behind offerwalls
Offerwalls are usually monetized on a cost-per-action (CPA) or cost-per-install (CPI) basis. The advertiser pays only when a qualifying action is completed — not for impressions or clicks. The offerwall provider keeps a share of that revenue, and the app publisher receives the rest.
For the publisher, this means the highest-value users of the app — the ones who would never make an in-app purchase — can still generate meaningful revenue by completing offers. Many developers describe offerwalls as a way to "monetize the other 90% of users."
Why app developers add offerwalls
- They monetize non-paying users who are otherwise worth close to zero.
- Users engage voluntarily, so the experience feels fair rather than interruptive.
- Revenue scales with active, engaged audiences — not just with whales who spend.
- Rewards can be designed to feed back into retention and session length.
Offerwalls work best in apps that already have an in-app economy: games with virtual currency, lifestyle and utility apps with premium tiers, and social apps with unlockable content.
Choosing an offerwall partner
A good partner offers a large, high-quality inventory across many geos, transparent reporting, and strong fraud prevention. Look for verified S2S tracking, clear settlement terms, and a team that will help you tune placements instead of leaving you to figure it out alone.
